Global Ski Industry Booms in 2025: China Dominates Market, Tech & Co-Brands Drive Growth

2025 11/07

Technological innovation has become a key differentiator for brands competing in this booming market. Smart ski boards integrated with AI algorithms and RFID chips are gaining rapid traction, with sales surging 317% during China’s 2024 “Double 11” shopping festival. Lightweight, high-strength materials continue to redefine performance: building on 2024’s glass fiber cloth advancements, 2025 sees wider adoption of carbon fiber composites and 3D-printed components, enabling 7-day custom production cycles that cater to individual skier needs. “Consumers now expect gear that’s both high-performing and personalized,” noted Li Wei, an analyst at China Report Hall. “Brands combining tech with customization are winning market share.”
Celebrity co-branded lines are also driving consumer excitement this season. Leading the charge is Faction’s 2025-2026 Studio 0 dual-panel ski, a collaboration with Olympic champion Eileen Gu that launched exclusively on JD.com on November 1. Inspired by the Year of the Snake, the U-shaped pool-specific board features reinforced construction to withstand high-impact landings, mirroring Gu’s competitive focus this season. The limited-edition release has drawn thousands of pre-orders, highlighting how athlete partnerships bridge professional performance and consumer appeal.
The competitive landscape is evolving rapidly, with established giants and emerging local brands carving out distinct niches. Global leaders like Burton maintain a stronghold in the high-end market, capturing over 25% of China’s sales with professional racing models. Meanwhile, homegrown brands such as Nobaday are disrupting the market through “cost-performance + scenario-based” strategies—expanding into shopping malls with ski simulators that attract 2,000 monthly visitors per store. Domestic manufacturer Qianmao Xuelong has also gained recognition, with its freestyle aerial skiing boards approved by China’s General Administration of Sport.
Sustainability and policy support are further shaping industry growth. The EU’s Green Deal is pushing brands toward eco-friendly materials, while the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act offers subsidies for electric snow sports equipment. These global initiatives align with consumer preferences: following 2024’s surge in demand for recycled glass fiber cloth, 2025 sees more brands integrating circular economy practices, from recyclable cores to take-back programs.
Despite the optimistic outlook, challenges persist, including raw material costs and supply chain complexity. However, with the winter season in full swing and innovations continuing to reshape product offerings, the ski industry’s 2025 growth story reflects a perfect storm of policy support, technological advancement, and shifting consumer behavior. “We’re entering an era where Asia leads both demand and innovation,” Li Wei added. “Brands that adapt to this new reality will thrive in the next decade.”
